GIULIeTTA Mateo Thomas <Carrelli>. Is a self taught artist based in San Francisco, CA where she is perhaps most famous for being the “inventor and queen of artisan toast” as noted by This American Life on NPR. She has a raw and pure improvisational approach. She is a cold pacific ocean swimmer and Her iconic Trouble Coffee has been a destination for any punk left in town: from the skaters to surfers, musicians, writers & cyclists. Her following quickly grew and people were drawn from all over America +Europe + Japan. They all came to see her, not just eat the toast. She designed all of her coffee shops with art in mind and then coffee. Why? She needed her space to be a safe place for her during her battles with schizophrenia. Her art is her medicine. She translates not only the voices in her head but also the disappearance of her hallucinations. This is why you will find Giulietta known as a free-form painter in the “Outsider Art”community. These days you can find her in the fog of the San Francisco coast or amidst the fabled North Beach neighborhood known for its sunshine as well as the former home to beatnik authors Jack Kerouac & Alan Ginsberg.
